End Global Warming, Solve Civic Problems

[Proposal]
I start this discussion topic on global warming because this is one major issue that I am concerned about related to environment. While about 80% of fossil fuel is burnt in america, it is effecting our global environment as a whole, so it is joint responsibility to take action. I believe if local communities work together against global warming then we can effectively contain the global warming issue. I want to make an application, a web platform which would rank all the real estate projects and communities based on how much are they balancing the global warming effect they are producing . For example communities which are using efficient energy sources (i.e use of energy saver instead of tube lights) and climate friendly transportations and growing trees to balance out the effect that their community has on climate change will be ranked higher than the community which is doing the opposite. This ranking will be done repeatedly from time to time. I believe this ranking system will help increase worth of property due to clean environment and communities would like to take part in it. Data collection for different communities would be done through hardware devices which would detect amount of smog in that area . Data collection would include energy sources used in that area , cars or vehicles in that area and any other form of climate change factor in that area and then our web platform would take those factors into account and calculate in what way this community should work to balance out it's effects on climate change .

For a business model, I propose to sell solutions to different communities based on their georgraphical position and wealth in that community. For example, place where people can afford solar systems we will provide solar systems as a solution to their climate change affect in an other case we will provide plant samplings and using efficient energy sources as a solution . Wedge game can be used to derive those solutions which would be implemented on our platform http://cmi.princeton.edu/wedges/game.php . Each time ranking or evaluation is done communities will have to pay for it. Growth model is that we will start with communities which are ready to take part in this evaluation and then will slowly move towards those communities which are less likely to take part in it, I believe this will set a certain trend which would make other communities to take part in evaluation as well. This will also solve problems like load shedding and air pollution and will help create a sustainable city.

[Discussion]

This is one of my solution to global warming . Can we solve global warming through innovative(web or mobile) applications ?

    One idea can be like those exercise apps that track of how much food you intake and how many km u need to run to burn it. Same method can be followed as how much CO2 your car has generated in this year how many trees you should plant. Similarly public transport awareness, routes etc can be integrated to promote the usage of mass transit systems and efficient usage of resources

    You have defined the scope of a huge portal, which I believe would be needed to be broken down into dozens of smaller projects, each with its own targets, goals and KPIs. Projects with such vast scope are better to be started from bottom-up approach, rather than top-down (like the final web portal you are proposing). For this hackathon, my suggestion to you is to break it down into few doable-in-short-time sub-projects and lets work on them. You would be needing a lot of IoT devices for environment readings.

    @Saad Omer
    For this hackathon i believe i should focus on web portal which would be able to rank communities if provided with dummy data .

    Well, its the simplest and easiest part :-) I think you should challenge yourself by jumping onto something a bit more complex. But again, its your call :-)

    complex in development ? if that is so then i would be more than happy to have your suggestion .
